Farewell to Dette and Nikki

Hey All:

I went out for a ride on Thursday morning. Pretty nice out in back and actually not freezing for a change. As we made our final loop out in front we saw Dette's trailer parked on the road. Then Vic and Dette started walking down the driveway to pick up Nikki. I shouted a hello at them and then headed in. We made our way back in time to say goodbye and good luck. Then they walked up the driveway to the trailer. Charlie said that Nikki walked right on with no problems and away they went. Sad to see them go, but I guess Dette always has wanted her own horse on her own property. I can understand that. We'll miss them.

I wonder if her daughters horse is here. If not I feel bad that Nikki will all alone. I also worry about all the work that is needed to keep a horse, hauling hag, grain, cleaning stalls, and water buckets. She's no spring chicken. But I do agree with Ginny that this is what she always wants. I will miss her very much, I always loved her hugs and good advice.

Oh wow! I am sorry I was not there to see them leave. I think of all the stuff you said, Debbie, and you are right! But doing all that work is what keeps us younger and full of hope and purpose too, eh? We'll have to make ways to go riding with her! -Lisa
